Cordillera Native Rice
The Cordillera Native Rice are mostly of the red rice varieties. This aromatic rice varieties are commonly grown medium to high elevation zones ranging from 600 masl to 2000 masl.
As the word denotes, the Cordillera Region is up of a ring of mountain ranges found in the center of Northern Luzon in the Philippine archipelago. The natives, Igorots, Ifugaos, Kalingas, carved the mountains thousand years ago to plant the rice.
Production uses common indigenous practices passed from generation to generation. Mostly are organically grown, since most farmers cannot afford to buy commercial and inorganic fertilizers and pesticides. Further, inorganic farm inputs are bulky and transportation cost is high when delivering to the rice terraces.
